Music

At Tornedale Infant Academy, we recognise the importance of music education in school. Music supports children in early language acquisition which is vital for our children's oracy skills. Our community has an increasing number of children who have English as an additional language and we recognise the role that music can play when learning a new language. This year we are introducing the use of the Sparkyard scheme which not only teaches children to appraise and perform music but also the language of music. The language of music relates to the ability to read and understand notation and use technical subject specific vocabulary.

Music doesn’t just help academically; it also improves the mental well-being of the children and this is something that we intertwine into assemblies, brain breaks, playtimes and through other areas of the curriculum too.
