📢 After School Activity Clubs - Booking Opens Soon! 

Next term's after-school activity clubs will be available to book on the My Child at School (MCAS) app shortly. 

Unfortunately, the response to some of our clubs this term, particularly Multi-Skills and Dodgeball, has been very low. To ensure we can continue to offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities for our children, these clubs need sufficient numbers to remain viable. It may become a case of "use it or lose it" going forward. 

Our activity clubs provide children with the chance to develop new skills, improve their fitness, build friendships and, most importantly, have fun in a safe and supportive environment. 

✅ FREE for children in receipt of targeted Free School Meals 
✅ Just £3 per session for all other children 
✅ Includes a healthy piece of fruit after the session 
✅ One hour of fun, engaging activities 

We encourage families to take a look at the range of clubs on offer and support these fantastic opportunities for our pupils. We would love to see more children taking part next term and help ensure these clubs can continue to run in the future.

Coffee Hour – Wednesday 21st October ☕ 

Good afternoon, everyone! 

For those who are new to our setting, I'm Miss Newton. Alongside being the Year 2 teacher, I am also the school's SENDCO. 

Each half-term, I host an informal coffee morning or afternoon where all parents are welcome to come along for a cuppa and a chat! The aim of these sessions is to give parents an opportunity to speak directly with myself and other members of staff, ask questions, find out more about different areas of support or simply share any worries or concerns they may have. 

Where possible, I also invite outside professionals to join us and offer advice and guidance to parents. This is a great opportunity to access support and information without necessarily needing a referral or facing lengthy waiting times. 

Following feedback we received last year, we have decided to alternate the days and times of our Coffee Hours each half-term to give as many parents as possible the opportunity to attend.

📍 Please come through the school office, where a member of staff will let you into school. 

We are pleased to confirm that the school nurse will be joining us for this session! School nurses can offer advice on a wide range of topics, including sleep routines, eating, continence and general child health. They can also signpost families to other services where appropriate, making them a great first point of contact if you are looking for advice or support. 

Myself and Miss Nicholls, will also be there to answer any school-related questions or concerns. Or, if you simply fancy a friendly chat over a cuppa, we'd love to see you! 

Please don't feel you need to have a particular concern to come along – everyone is welcome, and we'd love to see you there! 💛

Attendance Matters! 

Every day in school counts. Good attendance helps children to build friendships, develop confidence, keep up with their learning and make the most of all the opportunities school has to offer. Even missing a few days can mean children miss important learning experiences that are difficult to catch up on. 

Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child attends school regularly and arrives on time each day.

Behaviour Matters 

Positive behaviour is the foundation of a happy, safe and successful school. Children thrive when expectations are clear, consistent and supported both at school and at home. Here are a few simple reminders that make a big difference: 

⭐ Praise and celebrate positive choices. 
⭐ Encourage children to use kind words and good manners. 
⭐ Support good routines, including bedtime and punctuality. 
⭐ Talk positively about school and learning. 
⭐ Encourage children to take responsibility for their actions. 
⭐ Work together with staff to address any concerns early. 

When we all work together, we help children develop the confidence, resilience and self-discipline they need to succeed.

Festivals Week 

Week beginning 2nd November is our Festivals Week. As part of our celebrations, the children will be taking part in a range of diversity-themed creative workshops. One of these activities involves Indian block printing, so we would be very grateful if you could send in an old plain white T-shirt for your child to use. Thank you for your support. 

Kellogg's Breakfast Club Grant – We Need Your Support! 

We are excited to share that Tornedale Infant Academy has the chance to win a £500 grant to help support and enhance our Breakfast Club through a new Kellogg's and Tesco Breakfast Club Grants initiative. 

As part of this programme, 300 schools across the UK will each receive £500 to support the running of their breakfast provision. Successful schools will be selected at random from all valid nominations received.

Supporting Mrs Wyllie 💜 

We're incredibly proud to share that Miss Nicholls will be doing a sponsored head shave on Friday 23rd October to raise money for our wonderful Mrs Wyllie as she goes through her treatment.
