At Nursery, our day consists of our morning welcomes, dates, weather and timetable check. On a Friday this is slightly different as the parents are invited to come and read with their children in the classroom. These activities are followed by our whole class carpet input next to the smartboard where we focus on learning intentions from the EYFS curriculum. Next the children have the opportunity to choose their learning independently in our indoor provision. There is access to a lots of learning opportunities in the classroom, such as the sand or water tray, small world, role play corner, writing table, making area, construction area, our reading corner including Tales Toolkit and our painting easel. We provide lots of open-ended resources to ensure children are able to open their imaginations and be as creative as possible
Time for snack followed by choosing our learning outdoors where there is, once again, a wide range of provision for the children to interact with before story time and then home time for our morning children or lunchtime for those who stay.
Our afternoons follow the same programme of learning above with the children being extended if they attended the same carpet input earlier in the week.
We started the year off with ‘The colour Monster’ exploring our feelings and emotions. Children can have such big emotions when starting school and we give them the tools to enable children to express them. Throughout the year we have a variety of themes which are shared with the rest of the school on a two-year cycle. Some of the themes include Moon Zoom, Toys, Food, glorious, Food and Splish Splash! The children will be offered a selection of books to focus on including but not limited too; Goldilocks, Aliens love underpants, The very hungry caterpillar and Handa’s Suprise. As educators we definitely follow the children’s lead on learning, and we can switch to a main focus to keep the children engaged and learning. We are very excited to see what this year will bring. We have an open-door policy and you can come and chat to us either side of the session, we will love to help!
